Disciplines of the Land gather items used in synthesis as we all know. What you may not know, is how each stat affects what, and what that sweetspot thing I ramble on about actually does. (Note: ALL of this is in my own writing and based on my own experiences. Nothing is taken from other sites due to lack of information.)

Gathering

The Gathering stat affects how often you are able to gather from a specific node (there is a cap however), and how much of the Remainder bar decreases as you gather during an attempt. So more Gathering = more tries.

Output

This is a good one too. It affects the rate at which you gain more quantities (and quality) of an item successfully gathered. Examples being 3x iron ore +3 and so on. More Output is good for mass gathering.

Perception

This is a big one. You know that Approach Gauge? The one that's either a bullseye for Mining or a slider for Botany/Fishing? Well Perception is basically the Accuracy of this gauge. You may notice when you switch to a higher grade that the same items you were farming before are found at a different range on the slider. That means you need more Perception+ to regulate the accuracy of the slider, or else the range will be all over the place for a single item.

Depth/Notch/Exposed Ore Sliders

This is how you find the sweetspots for your items, which remain the same for all grades. Example: the sweetspot for iron ore, no matter what grade it's mined at, will always be -2 from Default (2 notches down from the middle).

Note for Fishing

As in FFXI, different baits will reel in different types of fish. There are different purpose bait types (Freshwater, Saltwater and All Purpose), for different areas. Be mindful of this when fishing or you won't get many results if any.

Catalysts and You

Catalysts can only be gathered at main hand nodes, and only after Fingerprints of the Gods takes effect. All catalysts have sweetspots, and while they may differ in name as the grades go higher, their sweetspots will stay the same for that type of catalyst (ie., Calcified matter from Fishing grade 3, and Cultured matter from Fishing grade 4, share the same sweetspot for Fishing Catalysts). In the case of Fishing, where you don't need a gathering node to gather normally, you do need to be at a school of fish for Fingerprints of the Gods to take effect, it will not proc when fishing just anywhere. Fingerprints of the Gods can take effect at anytime after at least one gathering attempt has been made, and will remain in effect until all gathering attempts have been made or until gathering is cancelled.

The following is where catalysts are farmed, by what class, and their location.

This concludes the introduction to Disciplines of the Land.
